Murray, Defense Struggle as Pietrangelo and Blues Spoil Banner Raising
A little over a minute into overtime Alex Pietrangelo launched a puck off Matt Murray’s glove and into the net, spoiling the Penguins’ ceremonial night. The Penguins played almost as expected, their offense was at times was dominant. However, their defense looked really poor and Matt Murray looked extremely shaky (allowing 5 goals on 34 shots). Colton Parayko and Paul Stastny both looked great tonight for the Blues. The Pens are back at it tomorrow in Chicago.

The Wayne Train Steams Ahead
Wayne Simmonds started the season off on the right foot notching a hat trick en route to a 5 - 3 win over the San Jose Sharks. The Flyers started off hot by capitalizing on a turn over and a PP goal by Claude Giroux and Jordan Weal respectively. Kevin Labanc responded with 2 goals of his own to tie the game up at 2 at the end of the first. The Flyers power play remained hot as they scored a PP goal in the second period that Simmonds got credit for, as a rocket of a shot by Gostisbehere hit his shin pad and went in. Simmonds would tally another deflection PP goal in the third period to go up 4 - 3, and would later lock up the game with an empty net goal. Both Gostisbehere and Voracek had 3 assists and the fourth line for the Flyers was fantastic and the team, despite penalties and some rough patches, looked very good. Robert Hagg took a penalty and despite that looked very solid as did Nolan Patrick in his first game, making some great offensive plays that nearly lead to goals. The Flyers have another tilt the following night against the LA Kings.
